Woah...

Behold!! the power of the macro attachment that I didn't know I had.

I was going through my camera stuff, cleaning my lenses, etc, when I came across this wide angle attachment I have (it cuts the focal length of your lens in half). Well, it's also got macro written on it, and I was wondering wtf that means, because short focal lengths and macro go together like oil and water. Turns out, if you unscrew the attachment, and only use one of the lenses, you get a bad ass macro attachment. Above are pictures of the same items with my 70-300mm lens (at 300 mm for all but the pen close up, which was 200). The macro attachment gives me some hardcore distortion, but it lets me focus at like....6 inches, as opposed to 3 feet or so. I'm deffinetly going to have to experiment with this. I'd like to do a close up of my iris, inspired by this, but I have such a narrow depth of field with the macro lens that I think it will be difficult. In fact, it can't even focus cleanly at f/8. I think it may still be changing the focal length of my lens, and converting f/8 to f/1 or something rediculous like that, which would make it basically impossible to focus.

In any case, expect more uber-close ups.

LOLKITTEN!!!!

I'm in ur brainz, controlling ur thoughtz.

But seriously, I really like this shot. I'm not sure exactly what I did that made it so good, but I think it has to do with the lighting. In almost every picture, the eyes make or break the shot, and this is a case where they came out with alot of detail, which I often have trouble with, especially with black animals. If I remember correctly, it was an overcast day, and the natural light was coming through a sliding glass door to the right. I think the side illumination really helped the wiskers pop out.

From his wedding

My uncle at his wedding a few years back. The problems: a woman growing out of his ear, the noise in his jacket, his hand connected to his chin (would have been better a few inches lower). The good: interesting lighting on his face, a nice expression that dosen't seem at all forced, a sense that I captured "him." I also like the diagonal stripes on his tie and the diagonal tilt of the glass (not at all intentional). Perhaps a different cropping would look good, and of course a longer lens with less depth of field would have been nice too, but this was back in the day with a point and shoot.

Powned!!

Hells Yea....Kick Her Ass!!! This could use a less busy background (which should be available once my sister plays on highschool teams instead of travel teams) but otherwise I am pleased. The expressions on the girls faces say it all.

Let your genitals hang out!!

I know, the title is somewhat uncouth, but what we really have here is a close up of a plant sex organ. In any case, I got good detial in this shot from Lost Nations, but if I went again I would pay more attention to my backgrounds. In fact, I might need to buy some black felt and a little stand. That would really make this flower jump off the page. I think that the petal on the upper left is also overexposed, something I didn't mean to do when I took the picture. The moral of the story? Meter off a grey card, and use the little feature on the camera that highlightes overexposed pixels during the review.

I look at my photos so much more critically when I am showing them to other people (even though there aren't any other people at the moment). Hopefully I'll learn a lot as I do this.

Intense

Alright, this is the inagural post. I want to collect some of my favorite photography I've done. This won't be pictures that I take every day (such as industrialhelix.blogspot.com), it will simply be stuff from my collection. I should update daily for a while, but I imagine I'll run out of good material after a bit. Anyway, this pic is a girl that was at my Aunt and Uncle's wedding. I have always been stuck by her piercing gaze.
